On October 2nd, the Senate confirmed Ajit Pai to serve a second five year term at the FCC, retroactive to June 2016.
Pai has broad telecom industry support focusing on the FCC policy goals of bridging the digital divide, promoting innovation, protecting consumers and public safety, and making the FCC more open and transparent.
Following is a quote from Gordon Smith of the NAB on Pai’s appointment:
“NAB congratulates FCC Chairman Pai on being confirmed to another five-year term at the Commission. Chairman Pai understands broadcasting's unique role as an indispensable communications medium, and we appreciate his effort to ease outdated regulatory burdens on local radio and TV," said National Association of Broadcasters President Gordon Smith. "We share his vision for a vibrant communications future that allows local broadcast innovation and robust competition to largely unregulated broadband and pay programming providers."
We totally agree, and look forward to the FCC finalizing the standards for ATSC 3.0 by the end of 2017.
